Welcome and Announcements

Welcome to our online worship for the Second Sunday after Pentecost.

This week we have Father Will Holt leading the worship, and wonderful music from our church musicians Rhonda Stanton and Zoë Pouliot. The appointed scriptures for today are read by members of Grace Parish. We encourage everyone to pray and sing along from your homes. We are all looking forward to when we can safely worship together in person, but we’re together through the Spirit even as we are apart.

For additional fellowship during this time of social distancing, find our public Facebook page, and if you’re a member at Grace join our Member’s Group – it’s our virtual coffee hour all week long!

Children’s Resources

  • From Episcopalians Tucked In here is a story: “Maybe God is Like That Too” which offers an interesting way to see God at work in the daily life of a child.
  • Guided Lectionary Reading for families for the Second Sunday after Pentecost
  • Coloring Page to Download and Print – Features the disciples as they are found in today’s gospel reading
  • Godly Play: This week I couldn’t find a video of our scheduled story, so I chose the creation story of Adam and Eve in the garden, “Second Creation.” The audio is nice and clear. The video is 7 and a half minutes.

Opening Hymn: Tell Out My Soul

Rhonda Stanton and Zoë Pouliot

1 Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord!
Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice;
tender to me the promise of his word;
in God my Savior shall my heart rejoice.

2 Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his name!
Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done;
his mercy sure, from age to age the same;
his holy name — the Lord, the Mighty One.

3 Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might!
Powers and dominions lay their glory by.
Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight,
the hungry fed, the humble lifted high.

4 Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word!
Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure.
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord
to children’s children and forevermore!

Acclamation and Opening Collect

Father Will Holt

Glory to God in the highest,
    and peace to his people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
    we worship you, we give you thanks,
    we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
    have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
    receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
    Jesus Christ,
    with the Holy Spirit,
    in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Hymn: 509 Spirit Divine Attend Our Prayers

Rhonda Stanton and Zoë Pouliot

1 Spirit divine, attend our prayers,
and make this house thy home;
descend with all thy gracious powers,
O come, great Spirit, come!

2 Come as the light; to us reveal
our emptiness and woe,
and lead us in those paths of life
whereon the righteous go.

3 Come as the fire, and purge our hearts
like sacrificial flame;
let our whole soul an offering be
to our Redeemer’s Name.

4 Come as the dove, and spread thy wings,
the wings of peaceful love;
and let thy Church on earth become
blest as the Church above.

5 Spirit divine, attend our prayers;
make a lost world thy home;
descend with all thy gracious powers;
O come, great Spirit, come!

Gospel Reading: Matthew 9:35-10:8, (9-23)

Sermon

Father Will Holt

Nicene Creed

Pam Evans

We believe in one God,
    the Father, the Almighty,
    maker of heaven and earth,
    of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
    the only Son of God,
    eternally begotten of the Father,
    God from God, Light from Light,
    true God from true God,
    begotten, not made,
    of one Being with the Father.
    Through him all things were made.
    For us and for our salvation
        he came down from heaven:
    by the power of the Holy Spirit
        he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
        and was made man.
    For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
        he suffered death and was buried.
        On the third day he rose again
            in accordance with the Scriptures;
        he ascended into heaven
            and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
        and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
    who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
    With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
    He has spoken through the Prophets.
    We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
    We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
    We look for the resurrection of the dead,
        and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Closing Hymn: I the Lord of Sea and Sky

Rhonda Stanton and Zoë Pouliot

I, the Lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save

I, who made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain
I have borne my people’s pain
I have wept for love of them
They turn away

I will break their hearts of stone
Give them hearts for love alone
Who will speak my word to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them
My hand will save

Finest bread I will provide
‘Til their hearts be satisfied
I will give my life to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart
