Welcome & Announcements
Welcome to our online worship for the fifth Sunday after the Epiphany. We welcome the Reverend Dorothy Hartzog as our officiant this week. Rhonda Stanton and Zoë Pouliot, our very talented church musicians, have recorded hymns, prelude and postlude music for us. The hymn texts are provided so you can sing along or just contemplate the words. Dianne and Bruce Carlisle recorded the scriptures appointed for this week.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Father Will Holt passed away Thursday, February 4th, surrounded by his loving family at home. He served Grace Church for many years until very recently. He provided a wonderful example of God’s love and a was a trustworthy shepherd to so many of us. There are no immediate plans for services at this time. We will share those details as they are available.
Mother Dorothy has come through her surgery and is strong enough to be with us today via audio. We give thanks to God that the prognosis is good. Please continue to pray for her.
Ms. Jimmie Veasey celebrated her 100th birthday on February 6th. Pat Woods served as Grace’s ambassador and took her birthday cards from all of us at Grace and provided her with Holy Communion, which is what she most wanted for her birthday.
On Feb 17, Ash Wednesday, we will resume in-person worship. The service begins at 6:30, and Father Bill Burks will be with us that day. We will be masking and social distancing.
Canon Sharon Alexander will be with us Sunday Feb 21.
The Annual Meeting is Sunday February 28th following the church service and will be brief.
If you’re a member at Grace, you have a standing invitation to join us on Facebook in the Grace members’ group. We pray for each other, stay up to date on Grace matters, and enjoy baby pictures and hearing what your families are up to while we’re apart.
Children’s Resources
I’ve included a lesson for younger children and a lesson for older children. Use either or both with your children and have a good time “wondering” together!

First Reading: Isaiah 40:21-31
Psalm 147:1-12, 21c
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 9:16-23
Gospel Hymn: 772 O Christ the Healer
Gospel Reading: Mark 1:29-39
After Jesus and his disciples left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.
Sermon
Hymn: 381 Thy strong word did cleave the darkness
Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayers of the People
Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church;
That we all may be one.
Grant that every member of the Church may truly and
humbly serve you;
That your Name may be glorified by all people.
We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons;
That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and
Sacraments.
We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations
of the world;
That there may be justice and peace on the earth.
Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake;
That our works may find favor in your sight.
Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble;
That they may be delivered from their distress.
Give to the departed eternal rest.
Let light perpetual shine upon them.
We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy;
May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom.
Let us pray for our own needs and those of others.
Silence
The People may add their own petitions.
